July 23, 2017 | Photo Gallery: A suicide car bomb believed to belong to the Islamic State group (IS) hits a military convoy of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (HTS), the former Syrian branch of al-Qaeda in the city of Idlib, northern Syria, killing at least 20 people, including civilians residing in the area surrounding the site of the explosion.
After the explosion, the entire convoy was burnt, and the explosions of ammunition and weapons continued for about an hour.
The convoy was besieging a security headquarters of the Ahrar al-Sham group, with the aim of seizing the city of Idlib and ending Jaish al-Fateh. Jaish al-Fateh is an alliance of rebel and jihadist factions incliuding HTS and Ahrar al-Sham. Tha alliance captured the city Idlib in 2015.
